Purpose

   Building capacities of key-actors from Raut River Basin to participate efficiently in integrated water resources management.

Main activities

• Meetings with the members of the Raut River Basin Council to develop a 2-years working plan for the Council
• Environmental education program for schools in the basin of Raut River Basin
• Capacity building program for industrial companies (wineries) on implementation of regulation on conditions for waste water discharge into water bodies
• Planting campaign on Raut River

Results

• Prioritizing environmental problems which affect the river and proposing solutions to be implemented during a period of 2 years in consultations with all the target groups of the river basin
• Enhancing environmental education and awareness of the younger generation by involving youth in permanent monitoring of Raut river quality
• Restoring shelter belts in the riparian buffer zones of Raut river by involving various target groups in planting trees on different segments of the river
• Decreasing pollution of Raut river by promoting eco-detergents in the settlements of the river basin
• Decreasing pollution of rivers by promoting the construction of pre-treatment facilities of waste waters at wineries according to the new Law on Water
• Informing the local population from Raut River Basin on the priority environmental problems which affect the river state
