Purpose

• Improve environmental education and promote sound water resources management which will assure qualitative water supply and sanitation in the basins of Tigheci and Larga streams in the South of Moldova (tributaries of Prut river);
• Promote partnerships in the basins of Tigheci and Larga streams in the field of sound water resources management including sound water supply and sanitation between local authorities, competent authorities, civil society and private sector;
• Promote environmental democracy in Moldova by involving civil society in protection of waters at the local level.

Main activities

• Development of the report on the environmental state of Tigheci and Larga streams;
• Involvement of education institutions in monitoring program of water quality in Tigheci and Larga streams forming voluntary groups in each of the 14 administrative territorial units from 2 districts considered in the project region;
• Setting up Tigheci and Larga Basin Councils;
• Improvement of environmental education and promotion of environmentally friendly attitude to water resources.

Results

• Tigheci and Large Basin Councils created
• Report on the environmental state of Tigheci and Larga streams developed
• Water quality of Tigheci and Larga streams monitored in all the settlements situated along the streams by all the schools in the region
• Cleaning campaign organized in Tigheci and Larga streams with the participation of all the schools situated in the basins of these rivers
