The length of the river - 90 km, the surface of the reception basin - 724 km2, the total fall - 175 m, the average inclination is 19%, the degree of sinuosity - 1,38%.
Main tributaries: on the right - Valea Tătarului (11 km long); on the left - Valea Şofrâncoasă (length 15 km), Ciuhureţ stream (length 15 km).
The river basin is weakly meandered, not branched, with low levels of flow near the villages Pociumbeni and Horodiște, the river empties the ditches, has depths of 0.2 - 0.4 m. The bottom is mellow, in the lower course - stony, and downstream of the town Cupcini, covered with vegetation, the banks are clay and sandy, on the thresholds covered with sand or stone. The banks, for the most part, are very steep, with the height of 0.7–2.7 m, in some places they pass into slopes.
The monitoring of the water quality of Ciuhur river on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is carried out in the town of Horodiște. According to the results of the monitoring in 2015, according to the "one out, all out" principle, the water quality of Ciuhur river is highly polluted (the 5th class) according to the following parameters: CCOCr and sulphates, total iron and dissolved cadmium, and is attributed to the fourth class for the concentration of indicators: CBO5, total hardness, magnesium ions, mineralization, nitrite nitrogen.
PLACES OF INTEREST. In the lower course of the Ciuhur there are a series of geological monuments modeled by the river: the Văratic Defile, the Duruitoarea Defile, the Proscureni Reef, as well as the Pociumbeni and Stanca Natural Forest Reserves.
IMPORTANCE. The Ciuhur River runs through several localities (Ruseni, Cupcini, Stolniceni, Horodiște, Duruitoarea Noua), which it provides with domestic water. At the same time, this river forms several accumulation lakes where fish farming is practiced. Since the Ciuhur crosses spectacular regions and creates picturesque gorges through the Prut Toltres, there are chances for the future use of a hiking route that will attract more tourists in this area.
